"we have it in our power to begin the world over again"

About Common Sense

Inspired by Thomas Paine’s 1775 pamphlet titled “Common Sense,” this website advocates the beliefs in smaller government, fiscal responsibility and free societies. Many of the Principles espoused in the original Common Sense pamphlet have stood the test of time.

If governments today would adhere to its principles, they would not be teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and our liberties would not be under assault. On December 23, 1776, Thomas Paine wrote, “These are the times that try mens’ souls.” He could have written this today.

The time has come to take back our government and apply common sense principles to governing again. Self-interest is permeating government, leading to irresponsible budget deficits, repressive taxes, job-killing regulation and an encroachment on the liberties that we have embraced as part of the American way of life.

At Common Sense Principles, we believe it is time to fight back. How? Educating the people of our nation on our government’s current predicament. The smoke and mirrors approach taken by current leaders, their speech writers and mainstream media, are all attempts to deter America from the truth. That truth is, the government has failed us.

“A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong,
gives it a superficial appearance of being right.” -Thomas Paine

It’s time to advocate on the behalf of the principles and policies envisioned by our Founding Fathers. We need to restore the fundamentalism that our government was built on. Life, liberty, happiness––these and other inalienable rights have been violated, ignored and stripped of their meaning. What will it take to get America back on track? Open ears, open minds and the proactivity to look beneath the surface at what Washington’s current leaders are really doing to the state of our nation.

Commonsense Principles

Smaller Government. Common Sense Principles agrees with what Thomas Paine said over 200 years ago, “The government which governs the best governs the least.”

Fiscal Responsibility. Common Sense Principles believes in fiscal responsibility at all levels of government. We will fight legislative bills and executive orders that create wasteful government programs, explode the budget, raise taxes and self-perpetuate failure.

Free Markets and Property Rights. Common Sense Principles believes that property rights and free markets are necessary for prosperity and opportunity to prevail. Our laws must set free the power of small businesses so they may create jobs and create wealth.

Respect for the Constitution. Common Sense Principles believes that the integrity of our Constitution must be protected to keep government in check and our liberty intact.
